Network Engineer

Summary

The Network Engineer supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s network and systems infrastructure. This role is well suited for individuals with foundational networking knowledge and hands-on experience—whether academic or professional—with Cisco technologies, virtualization platforms, and Windows-based environments. The engineer contributes to daily operations, troubleshooting, and system administration to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient IT services across the organization.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, deploying, and maintaining network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Support virtualization environments and Windows-based systems, including servers, domain services, and related applications.
  • Monitor network and system performance to ensure availability, reliability, and security.
  • Troubleshoot network, hardware, and software issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as updates, patches, backups, and configuration changes.
  • Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and IT staff on infrastructure projects and improvements.
  • Maintain adherence to security best practices and organizational policies.
  • Assist with hardware and software installations, upgrades, and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP).
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco hardware (lab, academic, or professional).
  • Exposure to virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar).
  • Experience working in Windows-based environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and documentation abilities.
  • Associates degree or two years of full-time relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, Network , or equivalent.
  • Experience with firewalls, VPNs, and network security tools.
  • Familiarity with Linux systems.
  • Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Python).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field from an accredited four year college, university, or vocational school.
