Job Details:
The Telecommunications Operator serves as the first point of phone contact for Dayton Children’s Hospital, delivering a welcoming and professional experience for all callers. This role manages high volume incoming, outgoing, and interoffice calls while ensuring accurate routing to the appropriate departments or individuals. The operator plays a vital role in hospital communication by processing emergency notifications, overhead paging, and urgent alerts in accordance with established protocols.

This position supports patient care and hospital operations by providing on call information, patient information, and directory assistance. The operator also monitors fire alarms, weather conditions, and other safety indicators to initiate timely notifications to staff. In emergency situations, the operator utilizes the hospital’s mass notification system overhead paging, and/or Vocera messaging to ensure rapid communication with response teams, on call physicians and employees. This role is essential to maintaining effective communication and supporting safety throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and non verbal
- Ability to interact compassionately and professionally with patients, families, and staff
- Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to consistently follow policies, procedures, and safety protocols
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in high stress or emotionally sensitive situations
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn hospital systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work assigned shifts, including holidays or varied hours
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast paced environment

Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of customer service experience in a call center, healthcare communications, or emergency dispatch environment
- Customer service experience in a fast paced, public facing role
- Bilingual abilities
- Proficiency with communication systems, paging systems, and computer-based applications
