The full performance level class works under general supervision & requires considerable knowledge of animal behavior and animal control regulations; responds to citizen requests and patrols assigned area of County for the purpose of enforcing Ohio law regarding the control and licensing of dogs.
Normal Working Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 10:30am - 7:00pm and Saturday - Sunday: 10:00am - 6:30pm. On call for emergency call outs/occasionally covers other shifts. On-call rotation after 10:00pm weekly.
Posted until filled.- Duties/Responsibilities
Investigates problems and resolves complaints to include nuisance, incident, animal cruelty and neglect. Respond to citizen complaints regarding roaming dogs, stray cats, nuisance wildlife, barking dogs and road kills. Enforce State laws & municipal ordinances pertaining to dog ownership. Issues citations for violations by determining the circumstances that warrant a citation and those that warrant a written or verbal warning. Educate the public on the appropriate care and treatment of animals. Assists with the maintenance of the shelter and vehicles to include cleaning and sanitizing, in compliance with departmental policies & regulations.
Assist with office duties. Answering phones, adoptions, redemptions, dog license sales, questions from citizens regarding animal care, breeds, behavior, etc. and dispatches officers to handle complaints.
Computer operation using the Animal Control software (ARMS) for report writing, research, and preparation for court appearances.
Meetings, training, court appearances and judicial proceedings.
Performs others duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.- Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and 12 mos. of experience handling animals; valid Ohio Driver's License.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above may be substituted for the education and/or experience required. Education and Experience may not be substituted for mandated licensure/certification.
POSITION SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Predictable and regular attendance is required.
Travel may be required.
Subject to rotating shifts and/or week-end work schedules; exposed to weather (e.g. hot, cold, rain, snow), exposed to pet dander, physical violence and infectious animal bites.
Stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
